GHL were proud to be invited back to supply event fencing for Taste of Auckland 2015. This yearly event held at Western Springs showcases the best food, wine and entertainment that NZ can dish up. Large crowds of more than 23,000 attend over three and a half days in November, sampling the finest food and drink from NZ producers and cooking demonstrations from local and international chefs.
Taste of Auckland invited GHL when the event was originally located at Vic Park, to provide a solution to problems they had experienced in the past with other suppliers fences falling down in any wind.
Stability of a temporary fence is of primary concern for GHL’s event fencing hire projects and this project was no exception. Firstly, the location at Western Springs, Auckland is also prone to high winds, and this year proved to be no exception. Secondly, the organisers required the perimeter of the fencing to be fitted with shade cloth to improve it visually and hide behind the scenes amenities.
The shade cloth attached to the temporary fence, acts like a sail, increasing the wind load in windy conditions, so extra stability was required to ensure the safety of the large crowds. GHL installed its traditional temporary fencing triple block bracing and used additional larger concrete blocks strapped to the fence. The solution resulted in bracing to every second panel for assurance of stability and safety.
With over 23,000 people attending, the fencing also needed to act as crowd control barriers. We ensured the fencing safely maintained crowd flows during peak times, and directed foot traffic to key events during the day.
As an Auckland Council H&S pre-approved contractor, GHL met all the pack in and pack out deadlines, creating another successful event, ready for next year!
